The server was down for a while tonight. Sorry about this, I'm told it was due to some problems with virtual memory management. I'm going to be tweaking the installed software on the server a bit so periods of downtime may be expected this Saturday (9th June) as I install/uninstall and configure things.

Yep the server went down again a second ago. I moved forward some maintenance and upgraded Apache, MySQL et al so see if this improves things. The server appears to be getting hammered recently.
Will probably have to do a full reinstallation of server software, although I may try a reboot, so expect more downtime.

Is the traffic that's coming to the server real stuff or is it "other" stuff.
What is the current traffic running at and what does it normally run at?
Odd questions I know - just be good to know if there is anything I can do to help. Is this hosted on a paid for server or is it done on a home system?

Just had to reboot the server.
Not sure what's causing the memory problems, to be honest, I'm hoping it's not just the current... interest in the forums - at least if it's a DDOS I know I don't need to upgrade my package. I've rebooted in case it's a Windoze problem.
The server is a virtual private Windows 2003 Server with not amazing amounts of memory, hosted by SolarVPS on a 100MB connection at a datacentre in London somewhere.

Have the server hosts advised that they are aware of anything happening on the platform that they run the VM on?

It seems to have stopped now.
I've been tweaking some forum settings too. Clown is not the only site hosted on my VPS, but it is probably the most active one - and I've cut down the number of DB queries per page access to see if that helps.

Still no idea what's causing it. I think it's apache though :\
A pain to configure, that program.
