No idea what Adeans has planned for the future: to use .org or the more well-known .com url. Personally Id like to see .com to be the one. |
I have no access to clownguild.com. If I'm provided with the FTP details of the server I can set up a redirection here. If someone transfers the domain to me (we'll have to discuss) I can make it display this site natively under that domain. The other option is someone redirects the domain here themselves.
Gloom have you been able to get in touch with Affie?

Hmmm, speculation on my part but looks to me like the center main page one are the 5 latest POSTS, while the bottom left column one are the latest TOPICS posted. |
Looks like it. I've amended the sidebar one to be "Latest Forum Topics"

Lord Affie, being my rl brother I guess I can twist an arm or two Least with ftp access and any other things ya might need.
On a sidenote, loading this site is better without the TS info on the main page, but its still a bit sluggish...

Unable to create "albums" in the official pic sections. Admin exclusive? |
Not sure. I can set you up an admin account. From what I can tell it's configured to let people have 2MB of images in private galleries per user, I don't know who adds the public galleries. We could possibly just make the private galleries larger and not bother with public ones.

Would it be possible to have new pms show on the main page? Now one has to click a link to check. Yep, I know, Im lazy |
I haven't found a module that will let you do that but you're welcome to look and if you find one let me know.
We're running CPG Dragonfly 9.x. Official site is www.cpgnuke.com/

Well FTP access would be good. I can upload a redirection script.
Better would be for him to redirect the domain to this server. If he gets in touch with me I'll let him know whatever details he needs. He can have whatever access he wants to this site too.

Hmmm. I've run an optimise on the database but I don't know where else a bottleneck might be. According to the bottom there these pages are generating in under a second and it's roughly comparable on my machine to the original site.
Might be things like the shoutbox to be honest. I'll investigate which modules are slowest.

Er... word of the day? Random quote surely?
I don't have any of the clownish quotes so hard to implement unless someone gives me them. Is it really useful? It would add another couple of queries to the site, and hence make it a bit slower. Up to you guys really. Maybe we should have another poll

Well, might be a lot of work, but how about the "clown of the week/months" edge, where some clowns suggest other clowns, who did something great, for the guild, f.e.... - And in the next week theres an election between the suggestions, etc.....

Gloom - Yeah I see the merits in your points but unfortunately there are some technical limitations. I can't seem to add multiple "Blocks" (each function on the page like the menu, who/where, forum topics etc) to any page except the front page without changing the actual source code. The chances of me breaking something are quite high if I start doing that!
I'll see if there's a latest posts thing that can go in the sidebar, but I'm not hopeful. I won't unfortunately be able to add stuff to the statistics page (do you really need the info???) though, and I just know that if I fiddle with the forum page it will suddenly stop working
Torin - Can have clown of the month if you want but how would we administer it? Who would nominate clowns? Would be easiest doing it as a forum topic, or setting up a forum for that. We'd need someone to administer it however. Volunteers?
Generally - thanks for all the suggestions. I will work a bit on the site tonight and hopefully it will have most things implemented. Please bear in mind that there will always be things that can be better that I'll never have time to change, so don't knock yourselves thinking up loads of new features as most I probably won't be able to do anything about. Sorry

I'd like to be able to select a different colour scheme for the whole site... I was able to do that on the old site which meant I was able to make it a bit more 'work' friendly. - Maybe not easy to do but it's a feature I found useful on the current site
In general the site looks good. I'm not very good at creative input but the site seems to work quickly for me. Was an unusually long pause when it initially loaded but since then it's been very quick to respond.
