Introduce Yourself Forum

Some forums have an "introduce yourself" forum where people can write a bit about themselves. I'm wondering whether this would be a good idea for us, as we're a very community-orientated guild.

This would be for old as well as new members, giving new members a chance to get to know everyone and vice versa.

What do you think?

Quite frankly I don't are much for any of you as long as you get me EPICS! And if you don't; I NINJA THEM!

lol, well, pics of what people look like could be interesting, which we have some of in the gallery, but other than that I think we get the general idea of people in-game. But sure! I would read the posts, don't see myself writing one though.. Or, well, I could of course mumble down some words about me, age, occupation, sexual preferences and such..

But how much info should it be? Name, location(place and country), RL status, job, interests etc? Cool

I envision it to be very short introductionary style posts. Search google for "introduce yourself forum" and you see the sort of thing I mean. A paragraph or two at most saying who you are, where you're from, what you do for a living, how you discovered CLOWN, what games you play - I would provide an announcement with a list of ideas of things to include so it wouldn't be that hard.

If we get lots of nice posts I can set Classleaders, Councillors, Raidleaders etc to sticky and put a note by them so people know who their oppressor... er, I mean friendly leaders are.

Photos are cool but harder to do - I'd probably not provide instructions on how to upload photos but let people do it if they know how Wink

Might give tips on how to upload and link to a photo in the pics section.

I have looked at some of the pictures in the gallery and there's some that have no names on.... Could we make a gallery with pictures and char. names? Along with the info about the person behind it? Cool

The What We Look Like Gallery should really have the photographed person's char name in each description and most seem to.

Unfortunately there's no real tweaking I can do to the gallery configuration to make it display in a different way, or in a different way for that particular gallery only.

The vast majority of people won't upload their photo. I know this will be the case Smile

It will be easier for them to write a little bit about themselves, and link an image file into that post if clear instructions are given on how to do that (which I hope to do).

If we just had the "What We Look Like Gallery" as our info section, people would:

a) Probably not find it, as the gallery isn't the best layout in the world and not as prominant as the forums.
b) Post incomplete information anyway.
c) Not use it at all because they have to find and want to post a photo of themselves.

The other place you can already put information about yourself is in your profile, and look how many people do that... Very Happy

Apart from the signature and required name/email fields not many of us do.

The good thing about this forum idea is:

a) It's easy to set up.
b) It's nice and easy to find.
c) People are used to the forums and how to post on them so won't find it too difficult to do.
